SELECTING A DENTIST

Why a Board Certified Dentist is your Best Option!

Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea are serious health  problems. Improperly treated obstructive sleep apnea does increase the risk of hypertension, stroke, heart attack, diabetes and obesity. Choosing a dentist who is qualified to work with your physician is essential to your health.

The dentist you choose to treat your problem with sleep disordered breathing must be properly educated and have adequate experience. Legally, any dentist can provide oral appliances but that does not mean that he/she has the necessary experience and qualifications to provide the best therapy. Because no special qualifications are required, it is your responsibility to choose your dentist wisely. Oral appliance therapy is not part of the curriculum in dental school!  Working with a  dentist that is Board Certified by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine insures that you will receive the best therapy possible.

A Qualified Sleep-Disorders Dentist Should Have:

  • Appropriate knowledge of sleep medicine
  • In depth training in oral appliance therapy
  • Years of experience with the many different types of oral appliances to choose the best appliance for you.
  • The ability to manage any complications or side effects
  • Good relationships with local sleep labs and sleep physicians
  • Current clinical and theoretical knowledge through annually required continuing education
  • Ability to derive maximum insurance benefits for you by skilled insurance consultants
  • A follow up system to insure long term healthy results
  • Specialized training in combination CPAP/Oral appliance therapy for serious Sleep Apnea
  • Specialized home recording equipment to monitor and properly adjust oral appliances

Dr. Chassanoff is one of the few dentists in the United States who can meet these qualifications and whose practice is focused solely on oral appliance therapy.
